Due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the Aston Villa first-team squad, a youthful and inexperienced side was fielded for an FA Cup third-round tie against Liverpool. This challenging fixture provided Swinkels with his first taste of senior professional football.
A significant highlight of his early career at Aston Villa came on May 24, 2021, when he was a crucial part of the Aston Villa U18s team that triumphed in the FA Youth Cup. They secured a 2-1 victory over Liverpool U18s in the final, a testament to the strength of Villa’s academy and Swinkels’s contribution to the team’s success. Following this achievement, he signed his first professional contract with the club on August 10, 2021.
